Why We Care

Teach a Girl, Enrich the World.

Education and mentoring are the most effective solutions to the myriad of social problems affecting teen girls.

Better.
With alarming statistics like “a girl is bullied every 7 minutes” or “1 in 5 girls do not know who to turn to if they have a problem”, we believe that what teen girls need most are mentors. We recognize the countless number of social problems that affect girls in our community and are committed to delivering resources that will empower them to deal with and overcome these struggles.

Stronger.
We have a problem. More than 60% of teen girls in Prince George’s County lack the essential resources to make fundamental strides in life like graduating high school, pursuing a higher academic education or recognizing their self-worth. We have a true passion to reduce these numbers and give girls the opportunity to fly, the opportunity to dream and the opportunity to experience the spark that comes with seeing their passions and self-value grow stronger each day.

Smarter.
We know that mentoring works and the numbers confirm it: the high school dropout rate for mentored students is 1.1%, compared to 11.7% for students without mentors. 46% of mentored girls are less likely to use drugs, 59% improve academic performance, and 73% become more goal-oriented. These are the numbers we like and work to increase through our programs and interactions with our girls.
