Purse Strings Campaign Teaching the importance of giving back, The Purse Strings for My Girlfriends program gives girls a hands-on opportunity to reach out to the less fortunate women in the area by providing them with purses filled with personal care items. Providing an opportunity to see the inner workings of a community outreach effort, this program teaches girls how to solicit donations, manage a project, and work as a team. Filling over 800 purses with 12,000 personal care items per year since 2010, The Purse Strings for My Girlfriends campaign has reached thousands of needy women and created future community leaders. Shelter Room Makeover Learning everything from project management to interior decorating, this program helps girls develop crucial life skills while giving back to the community. Every year through participant and volunteer efforts, My Girlfriend’s House selects one area shelter to completely overhaul. Girls are each given a room that they are responsible for and a volunteer to mentor them through the project. By managing the project from inception to completion, girls learn skills such as budgeting, design, and time-management, while working as a team to change the lives of the less fortunate in the community. Bra Shoppe Experience The Bra Shoppe Experience is a way for a girl to be a girl. Partnering with a other teenagers from area shelters and group homes, girls enjoy a day of shopping while interacting with others from all walks of life. The ultimate girl experience, The Bra Shoppe program has partnered with Macy’s to enjoy a day of information and shopping. Program participants partner with women from local homeless shelters and group homes to get them the undergarments they need. The girls sponsor the local women and meet with apparel specialists to learn about proper fitting and support. Following the information session, the girls and women browse for the perfect bra and underwear. MORE>>

Street Beat Program Hitting the streets to give back to the community, Street Beat is a program designed to build leadership skills in girls and help the homeless in the area by handing out food and blankets. This girl driven program provides an opportunity to plan and implement a program while helping those most in need. The Street Beat program gives girls an opportunity to work as a team to manage an outreach initiative while directly helping the homeless men, women, and children of DC. Participants work as part of a team to gather food and bedding supplies, divide resources, and dispense these supplies to those in need. With this hands-on approach to community outreach, girls see first-hand the impact and appreciate the gravity of the work they are doing. MORE>>

Sassy Scholar Student of the Month Celebrating the academic achievement of our mentees, Sassy Scholars recognizes outstanding community service, academic success, and strong moral character that we encourage girls to embody. Selected by academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and community service, this program recognizes the effort that mentees are putting forth both in the classroom and in the community. Sassy Scholars receive recognition on our website outlining their accomplishments and activities, while creating friendly competition between program participants to embody the values of My Girlfriend’s House.
