September 6, 2014: Shelter Room Makeover Party @ St. Anne’s Infant and Maternity Home This month we will head over to St Anne’s Infant and Maternity Home, a group home for adult women & their infant children located in DC. We will pull together a group of volunteers, mentees, parents, and community supporters to renovate the rooms of the 12 women and their children living in the facility. By the way, I’m not talking about laying down a new rug or hanging a picture. We are transforming into professional designers and will wall paper, paint the walls, and do some heavy lifting with the brand new home decor and furniture we will donate. It is always hard work but the look on the faces of the children will make it all worth it. So if you’re interested in helping us bring a smile to the faces of these moms and their children, put on your creative hat and join us!

April 26, 2014: Bra Shoppe Experience Today we took 62 teenage girls from area group homes, shelters and foster agencies out shopping for new bras and panties at Macy’s Marlow Heights. This highly anticipated event continues to be possible due to the generous staff at Macy’s, who were on stand by, awaiting our arrival into the store. The teen girls we were taken to the dressing room area, where the staff had designated a special section for us complete with snacks and beverages for our girls. The store manager and staff then educated the girls on why a properly fitted bra was necessary and how to find a good one. The girls were then personally fitted for their bra size before being cut loose to look through the large bra selections, with a few requiring custom sizes that had to be special ordered. Each girl received 3 new bras and 5 new pairs of underwear.

April 5, 2014: Shelter Room Makeover Party @ Rachael’s Women Center This month we headed over to Rachael’s women’s Center, a homeless shelter for adult women located in DC. MGH divas worked with several other MGH adult female volunteers to remodel several rooms in this 3 level shelter for the women who call it home. We painted, hung up room borders, made beds, hung pictures and basically transformed the current “clinical”shelter environments into “homes.” I want to send a huge THANK YOU to all the volunteers that came out this weekend to support our Shelter Room Makeover Party. Take a look at a few photos from the day’s event. This outreach effort represents just a small portion of the work we do within our community, but we can’t do it alone. This past Saturday, a team of 60 phenomenal women came to our Shelter Room Makeover Party to help renovate all six of the family rooms at UCAP/Shepherd’s Cove Shelter, a Capitol Heights, MD shelter for women and their children. April 13: Bra Shoppe Experience. Today we took 40 teenage girls from the region out shopping for new bras and panties at Macy’s Marlow Heights and it was such an experience. The wonderful Macy’s staff was on stand by, awaiting our arrival into the store and once we arrived, we were taken to the dressing room area, where they had designated a special section for us complete with snacks and beverages for our girls. The girls were then personally fitted for their bra size before being cut loose to look through the large bra selections, with a few requiring custom sizes that had to be special ordered. Each girl received 3 new bras and 10 new pairs of underwear. And the day was complete when more then 10 large pizzas arrived and they got to feast with the Macy’s team. Here are the pictures from today’s Bra Shoppe experience… Thank you again everyone, for giving our girls the chance to experience a “Pretty Woman” moment today. |

March 2: Shelter Room Makeover Party:. What do you get when you combine a shelter full of vivacious women, an army of divas equipped with a paint brush, and a mission to bless those in need? The Shelter Room Makeover Party, that’s what! The Shelter Room Makeover Party was an outreach event designed to uplift women living in homeless shelters by renovating their rooms into hotel-styled rooms. On March 2nd we rolled up our sleeves, put on our interior decorator hats and headed to Hyacinth’s Place, a DC-based supportive housing program for women who are homeless and who have a mental health diagnose. We pulled together a group of volunteers, mentees, parents, and community supporters to renovate the rooms of four women living in the facilities. By the way, I’m not talking about laying down a new rug or hanging a picture. We transformed into professional designers and hung wall paper, painted the walls, and did some heavy lifting with the brand new home decor and furniture we donated. It was hard work but the look on their faces made it all worth it. I was speechless by the amount of support we received. It really showed me the power women exude when we come together for the greater good. Thank you to Hyacinth’s Place for allowing us to transform your rooms!
