Selected Shelter Profile

On Saturday, April 9th, we will be going to a SE, DC transitional, garden-style apartment building we support to make over 12 apartment units in their facility and 2 common spaces.

S.O.M.E. offers a long-term housing unit for women and their children that are faced with homelessness. The facility currently has 11 families living there, with 21 children.

**12 of the spaces are small apartment-style units with a full bathroom, a living/dining room and 2 or 3 bedrooms and a mini kitchen. The kitchens are newly renovated so the cabinets, dishwasher and stove are all brand new.

**The 13th space is a large common room that is used as a games/activities/workshop area.

**The 14th space is a small computer lab that the residents use for education and research.

Our goal with this makeover party, is to transform each of the apartments to look and feel like nice hotel suites with mature colors and themes. Even though this apartment has children, our goal is not the children-so please do not provide toys as we will not want that for this project, unless you are working in the common area.

We are going to need all the volunteers we can get to help us get the items we need to decorate the spaces. So please, start looking around your home for pictures, silk plants and flowers, lamps, area rugs, large pictures and basically anything else you could part with that we can use to turn these rooms into serene, tranquil spaces for these moms that temporarily call this transitional shelter their home.

If you would like to join one of the design teams in order to phyiscally participate, please visit our event detail page for more information on the available teams.
